Spire Global deploys first satellites from new Boulder manufacturing site
Spire deployed its first satellites built at a new Boulder, Colorado facility, launched on SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare.
what happened
Spire Global said Oct. 2 that it successfully deployed its first three satellites manufactured at its Boulder, Colorado facility, launched Oct. 1 aboard SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission. The company said the Boulder site provides end-to-end satellite development, manufacturing, integration and testing on U.S. soil, supporting what it described as national security and defense customers.
why it matters
CEO Theresa Condor said the facility, combined with Spire's other production sites, lets the company build 300 to 400 satellites a year, a domestic-manufacturing argument aimed at national-security buyers wary of foreign supply chains. For resellers and government customers, a second qualified U.S. production line reduces the company's single-site concentration risk.
