TURKSAT signs satellite technology protocol with China Satcom
TURKSAT · China Satcom
TURKSAT and China Satcom agreed to jointly develop UAV comms, satellite IoT and border-security tech.

what happened
TURKSAT Deputy General Manager for Satellite Services Selman Demirel and China Satcom CEO Ma Haiquan signed a protocol for joint R&D, product development and commercialization at the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya on Oct. 8, per Anadolu Agency. The agreement covers UAV communication systems, satellite-based IoT technologies and smart border-security technologies, plus satellite-management hardware for sectors such as energy, agriculture and logistics in areas lacking mobile network coverage, per TRT World. A joint steering committee with equal representation will review progress every three months. The partnership expands a capacity-sharing relationship the two companies began last year, following decisions at World Space Business Week in Paris to move into hardware and software development, per both outlets.
why it matters
The deal gives China Satcom a foothold for IoT and UAV-communications hardware inside a NATO member's satellite operator just as Western regulators scrutinize Chinese space-tech supply chains, and gives TURKSAT a development partner for satellite IoT products as Turkey's domestic space sector, Aselsan's Gokbagi constellation and TUSAS/Roketsan's Hursat-2, pushes further into sovereign satellite manufacturing.
