Italy's ASI explores building an orbital artificial-gravity research platform
ASI
ASI is consulting industry and researchers on a proposed orbital platform that would generate controlled artificial gravity.

what happened
The Italian Space Agency (ASI) announced October 8 that it is exploring a dedicated orbital platform capable of generating controlled artificial gravity for scientific and technology research, per ASI's own release and European Spaceflight. ASI's preliminary concept would host small, modular, CubeSat-sized experiments at gravity levels ranging from microgravity to lunar and Martian conditions, covering life sciences, fluid dynamics, materials and manufacturing, and planetary-exploration technologies. ASI opens a consultation questionnaire to the scientific and technological community on October 19 to gather requirements and potential uses ahead of a planned community engagement event.
why it matters
A dedicated artificial-gravity testbed would give European research groups and hardware suppliers a venue to validate systems for lunar and Mars conditions without waiting for a crewed mission, a capability gap ASI is flagging years ahead of any funding decision.
