what happened

Lyntris announced Oct. 13 that Intelsat General Communications, an SES Space & Defense company, selected it as payload integrator for the U.S. Space Force's Protected Tactical Satellite Communications-Global (PTS-G) program, per Lyntris's release, Air Force Technology and Via Satellite. Space Systems Command contracted SES and Viasat in May to each build a first operational PTS-G satellite; Lyntris will provide the RF payload architecture, precision pointing systems and antenna technologies, integrating and testing the payload at its Longmont, Colorado facility, with initial operational capability targeted for fiscal 2029. Lyntris's release states PTS-G is structured as a multiple-award IDIQ contract with a $4 billion ceiling.

why it matters

The subcontract is the first public detail on how SES plans to execute its May PTS-G award for anti-jam GEO satcom; Lyntris, formed this year from the merger of Vitesse Systems and Accelint, is building a track record on a program that also runs through rival prime Viasat, a sign the Space Force's protected-comms IDIQ is spreading payload work across a newer tier of RF suppliers rather than concentrating it with legacy primes.
