- 2026-10-29Lithuanian prosecutors named the two suspects held in Germany, a Turkish-German and a Serbian-German man in their twenties, on terrorism charges carrying up to 15 years and linked them to the Poland and Bulgaria Starlink attacks.
what happened
Lithuanian authorities foiled an arson attempt just after midnight on October 18 at a company storing Starlink satellite antennas and a control unit, after security services had warned the firm of a possible attack. Investigators found incendiary liquid in containers of 3 to 10 liters at the scene. The attempt came the same day a drone breached Lithuanian airspace near the Latvian border. Lithuanian prosecutors on October 29 named two suspects held in Germany: a man holding Turkish and German citizenship and a man holding Serbian and German citizenship, both in their twenties, charged with forming and operating a terrorist organization, participating in a terrorist group, traveling for terrorist purposes, and a terrorist act that could have caused serious consequences, charges carrying up to 10 to 15 years in prison. Lithuania's deputy police chief linked the pair to the Starlink arson cases in Poland and Bulgaria while saying they are not believed to have personally set the Vilnius fire; both men arrived in Lithuania the day before the attempt, left immediately after, had no prior ties to the country, and are held in Germany on European arrest warrants issued by Bulgaria over a similar Starlink antenna fire near Sofia, per TeslaNorth and Bluewin.
why it matters
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius called the attempt part of Russia's hybrid warfare campaign and said it is likely the Russian side commissioned it, per Kyiv Independent. It is the third suspected sabotage attempt on Starlink ground infrastructure serving Ukraine in Europe in under a month, following incidents in Poland and Bulgaria, underscoring the physical-security exposure of the ground segment that operators and their insurers now have to account for.
