Reaction Dynamics targets 2031 debut for Borealis medium-lift rocket
Reaction Dynamics
Quebec's Reaction Dynamics switched to liquid engines and unveiled a 6,000 kg-to-LEO Borealis rocket targeting a 2031 debut.

what happened
Reaction Dynamics, a Quebec-based launch startup, said it is targeting 2031 for the debut orbital launch of Borealis, a medium-lift rocket with 6,000 kg capacity to low Earth orbit, alongside a 2028 debut for its smaller Aurora launcher (about 200 kg to orbit), per Payload and BetaKit. The company has shifted its whole vehicle line from hybrid to liquid-fueled engines and has completed 21 hot-fire tests of the new liquid engine. It has raised about $50 million CAD to date and is targeting a Series B of $70 million CAD or more, with over $200 million CAD more needed to fund Borealis specifically.
why it matters
A sovereign, liquid-fueled Canadian launch vehicle is years from flying and has no disclosed customers yet, but it adds to the list of medium-lift entrants competing for the gap left as Falcon 9 cadence shifts toward Starship; its funding targets are a marker of how much capital a new entrant now expects a 6-tonne-class vehicle to require.
