Space Force opens ACES pathway for commercial access to classified programs
procurement
Space Systems Command's new ACES program aims to speed security clearances for commercial vendors joining classified space work.

what happened
Space Systems Command's Commercial Space Office (COMSO) announced the Access to the Classified Ecosystem for Space (ACES) program on October 22 at LA Space Week's Space Industry Days, per SatNews and ExecutiveGov. COMSO director Col. Tim Trimailo said ACES, built with SpaceWERX, the Defense Innovation Unit and DARPA, guides commercial vendors and a government sponsor through the steps needed to bring mature spaceflight technology into classified national security space programs. The program expands on DARPA's BRIDGES effort, which supported 19 companies through 2025. Vendors must first secure a government sponsor with an identified operational need before entering the program, and ACES will use other transaction authority agreements and other contracting vehicles to support them.
why it matters
Security clearance delays have kept commercial vendors with flight-proven hardware out of classified briefings on orbital threats and requirements, a bottleneck Space Systems Command is now trying to clear even as it leans on vetted commercial providers for programs like its space domain awareness reserve. A faster, repeatable path into classified work widens which commercial space companies can compete for national security missions beyond the small BRIDGES cohort.
