Barclays upgrades Tesla to Overweight, citing SpaceX merger case
SpaceX · Tesla
Per Barclays: a SpaceX-Tesla merger is now "a key part of" Tesla's bull case, with a new $450 price target.

what happened
Barclays analyst Dan Levy upgraded Tesla to Overweight from Equal Weight and raised his price target to $450 from $370 in an Oct. 26 note, per Investing.com and TIKR. Levy said a SpaceX combination should now be viewed as "a key part of the Tesla bull case," arguing it offers upside through a takeover premium while limiting downside risk since investors are less likely to short the stock ahead of any announcement. Levy noted both companies' boards have formed special committees to explore a deal and views an all-stock SpaceX acquisition of Tesla as the most likely structure. Tesla shares rose about 6% following the note, per TIKR, which also flagged that a completed deal would need more than 50% of each company's outstanding voting power, a higher bar than recent Tesla shareholder votes have cleared.
why it matters
Barclays is now the third major bank, after RBC and PhillipCapital, to build an explicit SpaceX-Tesla merger thesis into its Tesla rating rather than treat it as background speculation, widening the Wall Street consensus that a deal is coming. A completed merger would fold SpaceX's launch and Starlink businesses into public reporting for the first time, resetting how analysts and competitors value and track the company.
