MP Space raises AUD $23 million to scale satellite battery output
MP Space
Blackbird leads MP Space's AUD $23M (about $16.1M) seed round; Seraphim Space makes its first Australian investment.

what happened
MP Space, a Sydney satellite-power startup founded in 2024 by former Tesla engineers Jay Manley and Sam Paterson, closed an AUD $23 million (about $16.1 million) seed round led by Blackbird, with Seraphim Space, Systemiq Capital, Speedinvest and MFV Partners also participating, per Payload. It was Seraphim Space's first investment in an Australian company, per Space Connect. MP Space makes batteries, chargers, power-conditioning units and other spacecraft power systems, and says its hardware has been designed into more than 460 spacecraft.
why it matters
The round funds expansion of MP Space's Sydney manufacturing line as the company targets higher-volume production of satellite power units, positioning it as a dedicated power-systems supplier to the growing smallsat and constellation manufacturing base rather than a single launch customer. Seraphim's first Australian bet also signals investor interest spreading into the country's space supply chain beyond its traditional EO and launch-site focus.
