Starlink tests location-based pricing, raises maritime data prices 50%
Starlink is piloting location-based residential pricing and will raise Global Business maritime data prices 50 percent from December 1.

what happened
Starlink began testing dynamic pricing for Residential plans in parts of the US Midwest (Missouri and Kansas), varying monthly prices by up to 20% above or below the base rate for its Residential MAX and 100/200 Mbps tiers based on local network capacity and demand, per How-To Geek and RV Mobile Internet. Starlink told affected customers it "prices dynamically based on supply of capacity and demand from customers" and will review prices "roughly quarterly." Separately, effective December 1, Starlink is raising its Global Priority maritime data-block prices 50% (a 50GB block rising from $100 to $150, a 500GB block from $500 to $750) while cutting its Local Priority plan's international-use allowance from 60 to 30 consecutive days; the two plans are being renamed Global Business and Business.
why it matters
Resellers selling Starlink's maritime and business tiers need to reprice contracts before the December 1 change, a 50% jump in data-block costs that lands squarely on shipping and offshore customers; the Midwest pricing pilot is also a signal SpaceX may extend demand-based, location-specific pricing to more of its residential base once network capacity data supports it.
