SatPort acquires Speedcast's teleport business
SatPort · Speedcast · EQT Infrastructure · Telesat
EQT-backed SatPort buys Speedcast's teleport network of 12 sites in 11 countries, deal terms undisclosed.

what happened
EQT Infrastructure-backed SatPort Infrastructure completed its acquisition of Speedcast's teleport business on Nov. 3, adding 12 teleports across 11 countries and five continents, per a joint press release. More than 100 Speedcast employees joined SatPort, and Speedcast signed a long-term infrastructure services agreement to remain a SatPort customer. Financial terms were not disclosed.
why it matters
SatPort, formed as an EQT Infrastructure platform after its earlier bid for Eutelsat's ground network did not close, becomes a carrier-neutral teleport operator serving multiple satellite customers, the same specialized-infrastructure model that has already reshaped towers, fiber and data centers. SatPort already has a non-exclusive ground-segment agreement with Telesat; the Speedcast deal deepens its position as a neutral host for operators that would rather lease ground infrastructure than own it, while Speedcast moves toward an asset-light model focused on its SIGMA network management platform.
