Planet launches free AI App for natural-language satellite imagery search
Planet's new AI App lets users search a decade of its satellite archive in plain English, free at ai.planet.com.
what happened
Planet Labs launched the Planet AI App, a free tool at ai.planet.com that lets users search its satellite imagery archive using natural language, compare locations over time with side-by-side views and timelapses, and run automated analysis agents via a "Deep Research" feature, per Planet's own November 5 blog post. The app covers roughly a decade of near-daily imagery and is accessible from desktop or mobile with a Planet Insights account; the company said beta testers over the summer most valued the tool's help identifying where to search rather than manually scanning large areas.
why it matters
A free, natural-language entry point to Planet's archive lowers the technical bar for new commercial and government users who previously needed GIS expertise, widening the pool of potential customers Planet can later convert to paid imagery and analytics products.
