Yilong Aerospace targets 2027 debut for its YL-1 kerolox rocket
Yilong Aerospace
Chinese startup Yilong Aerospace aims to fly its 20-tonne-to-LEO YL-1 kerolox rocket by end of 2027, per SpaceNews's Andrew Jones.
what happened
Andrew Jones of SpaceNews reported via Bluesky on November 5 that Chinese commercial company Yilong Aerospace is aiming to launch its 5-meter-diameter, 20-tonne-to-LEO-class Yilong-1 (YL-1) kerolox rocket by the end of 2027. Jones said the company has a new factory in Chizhou, Anhui, where it has started welding tank sections, and is also planning a reusable YL-1R variant.
why it matters
A new entrant targeting a 20-tonne-class kerolox vehicle adds to China's already-crowded commercial launch field, which is racing to clear a capacity bottleneck for the country's megaconstellation buildout. Whether Yilong reaches a 2027 debut will show if China's launch-startup wave still has room for new entrants or is consolidating around LandSpace, Space Pioneer and a handful of others.
