Portugal orders two more ICEYE SAR satellites for its air force
ICEYE · CTI Aeroespacial · Portuguese Air Force
Portugal is expanding its sovereign SAR constellation from one satellite to four, all built by ICEYE.
what happened
On June 17, 2026, ICEYE announced that CTI Aeroespacial, a joint venture between the Portuguese Air Force and CEiiA, has acquired two additional ICEYE-built SAR satellites. Portugal's first sovereign SAR satellite launched in March 2026; the two new satellites bring the Portuguese Air Force's available constellation to four ICEYE satellites. Contract value was not disclosed.
why it matters
Portugal is moving from buying SAR data as a service to owning dedicated sovereign SAR satellites built by ICEYE, a model that gives national defence and civil-protection users guaranteed tasking priority instead of competing for capacity on a shared constellation.
