Hyderabad-based Cosmoserve Space announced Mission Embrace, a soft robotic capture mechanism designed to latch onto defunct, non-cooperative satellites, which will fly aboard Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 debut orbital launch in the July 12-August 4 window, per UNI India and Bizz Buzz. The company says it took the hardware from concept to flight-ready in four months, with an independent review panel of former ISRO scientists and industry veterans signing off at system, preliminary, critical design, and flight-readiness reviews.
why it matters
A successful demo would be an early proof point for Cosmoserve's dual-spacecraft active debris removal system, which the company says targets roughly a tenth of the cost of comparable approaches, and adds a second Indian startup, alongside Skyroot itself, riding the country's first private orbital launch to a technology milestone.
