LiveEO wins German Space Agency grant for multimodal EO vision model
LiveEO
Germany's Space Agency at DLR funded LiveEO to study a foundation AI model spanning optical and radar Earth-observation imagery.

what happened
LiveEO said August 4 it received a high six-figure grant from the German Space Agency at DLR, funded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space under its National Programme for Space and Innovation, for an 18-month feasibility study (June 1, 2026 to November 30, 2027) into a multimodal 'Vision Foundation Model' that detects change by combining optical and synthetic aperture radar imagery in one architecture, per LiveEO's own release.
why it matters
Change detection across optical and SAR imagery underpins LiveEO's infrastructure-monitoring products; a government-funded foundation model, if it works, could cut the cost EO analytics firms pay to build a separate detection model for every new customer, sensor, or geography.
