Rocket Lab establishes German subsidiary for sovereign satellite manufacturing
Rocket Lab launched a Munich-based German subsidiary to build a regional hub for satellite manufacturing and European launch sales.

what happened
Rocket Lab announced Aug. 10 that it formally established Rocket Lab Germany GmbH, based in Munich, built from a shelf company renamed in the spring around the time Rocket Lab completed its acquisition of Munich-based optical terminal maker Mynaric AG. On its Aug. 10 earnings call, CEO Peter Beck outlined three pillars for the unit: satellite manufacturing, assured access to space, and strategic autonomy, per European Spaceflight and Defence Industry Europe.
why it matters
Rocket Lab is betting European governments' push for sovereign, non-US space capability will translate into demand for domestic constellation-class satellite manufacturing, not just launch; the German unit gives it a local production base to compete with European primes for that work.
