what happened

The U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command awarded Voyager Technologies a contract to develop a flight-ready waveform for space-to-space data-link communications and conduct an on-orbit demonstration, Voyager said Aug. 10. The system must operate across multiple orbits within set weight, power, and design-life requirements; Voyager did not disclose the contract's value.

why it matters

Space-to-space links let satellites relay data directly rather than through ground stations, a capability the Space Force is buying up as it builds a proliferated LEO data-transport architecture. The award adds Voyager to the roster of newer entrants competing for that infrastructure business alongside legacy primes.
