what happened

Sparkle and Hellas Sat demonstrated a quantum-safe satellite connection between Sparkle's data center in Metamorfosis, Athens, and Hellas Sat's infrastructure in Cyprus, an end-to-end path of roughly 72,000 kilometers via a geostationary satellite. The two companies had earlier validated Sparkle's Quantum Safe Interconnect (QSI) protection, which uses secure key delivery and automatic key rotation, over a terrestrial IPsec link between two data centers in Greece.

The trial shows a software-based quantum-safe layer can extend to an existing satellite path without new hardware, aimed at 'harvest-now-decrypt-later' risk for government and enterprise customers needing secure connectivity in remote areas.
