SES and Elveo Mobile expand D2D deal to add roaming, EU manufacturing
SES · Elveo Mobile
SES will use Elveo's D2D tech for European mobile roaming and the two will build LEO D2D satellites in Europe.

what happened
SES and Elveo Mobile announced Sept. 15 an expanded partnership to accelerate direct-to-device (D2D) service delivery in Europe, per SES's own release. SES will use Elveo's patented D2D technology to enable mobile roaming for European consumers, businesses, governments, institutions and defense users, including NATO, leveraging Elveo's 2 GHz S-band spectrum rights covering more than 1 billion people. The companies will also establish European manufacturing capabilities and a supply chain for LEO D2D satellites using Elveo's satellite bus, payload and software stack, combining Elveo's LEO network with SES's GEO and MEO fleets into a multi-orbit architecture.
why it matters
This turns SES's August investment in Elveo, the D2D operator formed from the Lynk/Omnispace merger, into concrete commercial and industrial commitments: a roaming product reaching over a billion people and a European LEO D2D manufacturing base, arriving the same week Elveo separately tapped Apex Space to help scale its supply chain. For European mobile operators, it signals a multi-orbit D2D roaming option is moving from investment to industrialization.
