Orange and Telesat commission first European gateway for Lightspeed
Telesat · Orange
Orange and Telesat commissioned the first European ground gateway for the Telesat Lightspeed constellation.
what happened
Orange and Telesat said they installed and commissioned a gateway at Orange's Tier-4 teleport in Bercenay-en-Othe, France, to support Telesat Lightspeed's initial 225-satellite constellation. The gateway uses antennas from Intellian Technologies and links to Orange's network toward Telesat's planned Paris point of presence; Telesat still targets a global in-service date of Q1 2028.
why it matters
Ground infrastructure, not just satellites, gates when a LEO constellation can actually sell service, and this is Telesat's first confirmed European gateway toward that 2028 target, a concrete step for a constellation that has repeatedly slipped its build-out schedule.
