Space Applications Services books LUVMI-M lunar rover on Blue Origin lander

Belgium's Space Applications Services secured a ride for its LUVMI-M rover aboard a Blue Origin Blue Moon Mark 1 lander, on track for 2029.

what happened
Space Applications Services said Sept. 23 it has secured a ride for its LUVMI-M rover aboard a Blue Origin Blue Moon Mark 1 lunar lander, targeting a launch in early 2029, more than a year later than the Q4 2027 debut the company targeted in March 2025. The company said the mission, which will deliver the roughly 20 kg rover to the lunar south polar region and be operated from its mission-control facilities in Belgium, is financed through payload reservations and service contracts with private-sector, agency and public-organization customers, making it what the company calls Europe's first fully commercial lunar rover mission. LUVMI-M can carry up to 20 kg of customer payloads.
why it matters
A European-built rover riding a US lander is a concrete example of the commercial lunar supply chain forming around NASA's and other landers: Space Applications Services is selling payload space and services rather than building a government-funded one-off mission, a model other European hardware developers will be watched for replicating as more commercial landers reach the Moon.
