Golbriak Space raises 4 million euros for laser communication terminals
Golbriak Space
The Estonian startup will use the seed round to scale production of its Ermes space laser terminal.

what happened
Estonian space laser-communications startup Golbriak Space raised 4 million euros in a seed round co-led by Join Capital and PhotonVentures, with participation from the Takeoff accelerator, per TechFundingNews. Founded in 2017 by Nicola Garzaniti and Simone Briatore, the company makes the Ermes laser terminal for space applications and the Ares terminal for airborne use; its current systems support 2.5 gigabits per second, with a 10 Gbps system planned for 2027. Golbriak says it already has paying customers and advanced discussions covering several thousand terminals, and the funding will go toward industrializing production at scale.
why it matters
Optical inter-satellite links are becoming a standard feature on new constellations, and Golbriak's round is aimed at the bottleneck that matters to buyers: serial production at volume rather than one-off demonstrators. A reliable, scalable laser-terminal supplier is ground/space-segment infrastructure that EO and connectivity operators building optical mesh networks need from someone other than their own in-house optics teams.
