Veon's Banglalink launches Starlink Mobile service in Bangladesh
SpaceX · Veon · Banglalink
Banglalink became the first operator in South Asia to launch Starlink Mobile, aimed at emergencies and dead zones.

what happened
Veon-owned Bangladeshi operator Banglalink launched a satellite-to-mobile service powered by SpaceX's Starlink Mobile, the companies said October 9, per Via Satellite and Veon's own release. The service covers essential apps and location services via Banglalink's MyBL app for customers with a 4G phone and Banglalink SIM, intended for emergencies, natural disasters, and prolonged power outages; the release does not mention SMS support. Bangladesh is the first South Asian market for the service, following Veon's Starlink Mobile rollouts at Kyivstar in Ukraine and Beeline in Kazakhstan.
why it matters
The launch extends Starlink Mobile's direct-to-device footprint into a third-largest-by-subscribers Bangladeshi carrier (37.8 million subscribers), giving SpaceX another telecom partner opening a new regional market ahead of regulatory approval processes elsewhere in South Asia.
