OHB wins ESA study contract for shared lunar infrastructure concept
OHB will lead ESA studies for OASIS, a shared power, communications and data-storage platform for the lunar surface.

what happened
ESA awarded OHB System AG feasibility and preliminary design studies for OASIS (Outpost for Advanced Scientific Investigation Station), a modular, scalable lunar-surface platform meant to provide shared power, communications and data storage to multiple scientific instruments, technology demonstrators and robotic systems, per OHB's own release. OHB is prime contractor for the studies, working with partners on system requirements and the preliminary design phase; the reference architecture could transport the infrastructure to the Moon aboard the European Argonaut lander on an Ariane 6 rocket, with the Moonlight system (initially Lunar Pathfinder) providing communications.
why it matters
By letting future lunar payloads share central power, communications and data services instead of each mission building its own, ESA aims to cut the complexity, mass and cost of individual lunar missions, a model that could lower the bar for commercial and scientific lunar payloads to fly on Europe's own lander and launch vehicle rather than a non-European one.
