EIB and Deutsche Bank will channel €560M to European space firms, announced at ESA's Munich investor forum.

what happened
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Deutsche Bank announced a €560 million financing partnership for European space businesses on Oct. 29 at ESA's Space Investor Forum in Munich, the first commercial-bank partnership formalized under the EIB's Space TechEU programme, which aims to mobilize an estimated €1.4 billion in investment with commercial banking partners, per ESA's and EIB's own releases. About half the money is earmarked for Germany, with financing targeting companies across the space supply chain, including satellite and component manufacturers, launch-technology developers, propulsion systems, Earth observation and in-orbit services. Deutsche Bank's Marc Mueller, Global Head Trade Finance & Lending, said "Europe has the engineering talent to lead in space. Our job is to help finance its next stage of growth," while ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher said "the next step is ensuring they have access to the capital they need to grow."
why it matters
European space startups and scale-ups, including launch and satellite-manufacturing firms competing in ESA's European Launcher Challenge, gain a new commercial-bank financing channel alongside grants and equity rounds, reducing reliance on US venture capital. The deal signals growing bank appetite for space-sector lending despite long development timelines and uncertain returns, a gap EIB's Space TechEU programme is explicitly designed to close as it works toward its larger €1.4 billion mobilization target.
