KSAT signs ground station deal with India's PierSight for SAR constellation
KSAT · PierSight
KSAT signed a deal to provide ground station support for PierSight's planned SAR-and-AIS maritime satellite constellation.
what happened
Norway's KSAT and India's PierSight signed an agreement for PierSight to use KSAT's global KSATlite ground station network for launch and early orbit operations, satellite communications, and routine mission support, per KSAT's own release. PierSight is building a constellation combining synthetic aperture radar and automatic identification system sensors for maritime surveillance, starting with its first commercial satellite, Varuna 2.0, planned to launch in 2027. KSAT business development manager Adrian H. Sheils said the companies are also exploring integrating PierSight's SAR and AIS data into KSAT's Vake maritime surveillance platform, building on a September letter of intent between the companies, per KSAT.
why it matters
The deal gives PierSight scalable ground infrastructure ahead of its first SAR satellite launch and extends KSAT's push to be a default ground-segment and data-fusion layer for maritime-focused SAR operators, alongside its existing Synspective and Axelspace tie-ups; maritime-intelligence resellers should watch whether KSAT's Vake platform becomes an aggregation point for SAR-plus-AIS vessel tracking as more constellations like PierSight's come online.
