Hydrosat unveils Nyktòs thermal imaging capability for tactical ISR
Hydrosat
Hydrosat's new Nyktòs MWIR line targets tactical ISR, paired with a planned European facility for sovereign customers.

what happened
Hydrosat announced November 2 its Nyktòs program, a high-resolution mid-wave infrared (MWIR) satellite capability for tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, which the company says provides taskable, day-and-night imaging of smaller thermal features that complements the wide-area, 340-kilometer-swath thermal monitoring of its planned Osiris constellation in a "tipping-and-cueing" workflow, per Via Satellite and SatNews. Hydrosat said it will open a new facility in Europe to manufacture Nyktòs payloads and build out local technology and supply-chain relationships to serve sovereign European government, NATO and allied customers, with payloads expected off the line as early as 2028, per SatNews; the company has not yet chosen a location for the facility.
why it matters
A dedicated MWIR line gives Hydrosat a second imaging modality to pair with Osiris's broad-area thermal coverage, and the planned European manufacturing base is aimed at sovereign-capability demand from NATO and allied governments wary of depending on US-based providers for tactical ISR. It extends Hydrosat's existing defense-customer base (including a prior US Air Force thermal-imagery contract) into a specific European industrial footprint.
