ArianeGroup keeps MaiaSpace operating despite negative equity

MaiaSpace's 2025 loss pushed shareholders' equity to -€823,375; ArianeGroup voted against dissolving the launch startup.

what happened
MaiaSpace's 2025 annual accounts, filed July 22, 2026 and reported by European Spaceflight, show a €37.5 million loss that pushed the ArianeGroup subsidiary's shareholders' equity from a positive €35.82 million at the end of 2024 to negative €823,375 at the end of 2025, despite the company holding €114.2 million in cash. Because French law requires a shareholder vote when equity falls below half of share capital, ArianeGroup met on June 25, 2026 and resolved, in accordance with Article L. 225-248 of the French Commercial Code, "not to dissolve the company early," per the filed resolution, allowing MaiaSpace to continue toward its targeted second-half-2027 first flight of the Maia rocket.
why it matters
MaiaSpace's dissolution would have removed one of Europe's reusable-launcher contenders and put its ESA European Launcher Challenge slot, which requires an orbital launch by end-2027, at risk. ArianeGroup's decision to keep funding a subsidiary running on negative equity signals the parent still sees strategic value in an in-house reusable launcher rather than relying solely on Ariane 6.
