ArianeGroup completes wet dress rehearsal of reusable Themis demonstrator
ArianeGroup · SSC Space
ArianeGroup rehearsed a full cryogenic countdown for the Themis reusable-booster demonstrator, its first update in ten months.

what happened
ArianeGroup and SSC Space completed a wet dress rehearsal of the Themis reusable-stage demonstrator at Esrange Space Center in Sweden on July 23, using liquid nitrogen in place of propellant to simulate cryogenic flight conditions down to about minus 200 Celsius, per ArianeGroup's release and European Spaceflight. The test exercised the full pre-flight, countdown and post-flight safety sequence for the vehicle and ground systems, and is the first substantive public update on the Themis test campaign in more than ten months.
why it matters
The rehearsal is a concrete step toward Themis's first low-altitude hop test, the demonstrator meant to prove Europe's own vertical-landing reusability technology as ArianeGroup, SSC Space and EU partners work to close the reusable-launch gap with SpaceX and other Western operators.
